Moderate Muslims in Luton, UK were not Moderate

A few days ago, there was a story all over the news about ‘moderate’ Muslims in Luton, UK fighting the Radical Muslims in the Uk who attacked British soldiers after they were returning home from fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

brawl in Luton

The original story in the Daily Mail ran as follows:

The Muslim community turned on extremists in their midst yesterday, telling them they were ‘sick and tired’ of their behaviour.

The angry confrontation came in Luton, where anti-Islamist protesters brandished England flags last Sunday, before clashing with police.

The latest violence erupted as arguments raged between fellow Muslims shortly after Friday morning prayers in the Bury Park area of the town.

Passing traffic ground to a halt as the large group of moderates confronted about a dozen extremists.

As the radical Muslims began to set up their stall, they were surrounded by a crowd shouting ‘we don’t want you here’ and ‘move on, move on’.

Angry words were exchanged and scuffles broke out between members of both groups, with the extremists shouting ‘Shame on you’ and ‘Get back to your synagogue’.

The moderates chanted ‘Out, Out, Out’, and after an uneasy stand-off, police officers were able to persuade the extremist group to leave the area.

It is interesting to note that the Radical Muslims decided to insult the ‘moderates’ by claiming they were Jews. It is sad that this is the insult of choice.

In any case, HRCARI most certainly wanted to believe the best of what appeared to be moderate Muslims. But then this story came out, via Jihad Watch:

Here is one article at their website: “Prophesy Of The Utter Destruction Of The Yahood” — that is, Jews — by Shaykh Saleem Al-Hilaalee:

The Jews shall NEVER have peace of mind or feel secure, or arrive at the level of safety that they seek. This is a dream that shall remain unfulfilled because they do not seek to extend the same to others. All attempts at seeking to facilitate this unattainable peace shall end in failure. They shall continuously be under siege as has been ordained by Allaah as He has said:
“And (remember) when your Lord declared that He would certainly keep on sending against them (i.e. the Jews), till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with a humiliating torment.” [7:167]

We recognise that this return to grandeur [of the Jews] shall be short lived, by the leave of Allaah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala). When Allaah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) speaks about the destruction of Bani [Tribe] Israel after the second occurrence of corruption He uses the letter “faa” to imply that soon afterwards after their return to grandeur, their destruction shall come about. The faa indicates that it is a short, defined period of time wherein they shall gather in the Holy land and assemble uniformly so as to meet their demise together at the hands of the soldiers of Allaah from the ‘Ibaad ur-Rahmaan.

And here is a lovely piece defending Muhammad’s statement that “women are deficient in intellect.”

Sadly, it appears that the brawl between the Radical Muslims and ‘moderate’ Muslims in Luton is similar to what goes on in the Palestinian territories between Hamas/Fatah – it is not a battle between extremists and moderates, but rather a battle between competing extremists.

One can only hope that, in time, those who fought the extremists turn out to be a group which believes in human rights and equality before the law. Until then, it does not appear that the group which fought against the Luton extremists is worth supporting.

Muslim groups which appear genuinely committed to human rights and equality before the law include, but are not limited to, the following groups:

American Islamic Forum for Democracy

LibforAll

Muslims Against Sharia

Center for Islamic Pluralism

Global Movement Against Radical Islam

There are Muslims out there who support human rights; we have to ensure we support the right groups, rather than groups which are little different than the radicals themselves.
